Shown here for the first time Nicola Tree’s latest series of portraits is part of our Royal Wedding extravaganza.

As with previous work the common thread is the subject’s name. Each Kate chose their own location; some also added an object as a reference to the wedding, from Royal Duchy Biscuits to a pew in the church where they married themselves.

Nicola is looking to create a body of work that spans generations and borders; seeking similarities and reflections on both name and personality of her subjects. Please join us for a glass of wine.

Royal Wedding fever hits Walthamstow village on Friday 29th April 2011, with a great British tea shop 'pop-up' at Penny Fielding's Beautiful Interiors, Orford Road. TV chef, Hulya Erdal of Made by the Chef www.madebythechef.comas seen on Channel 4's Iron Chef UK, will be offering customers a delicious selection of colourful cupcakes, homemade scones, strawberry conserve, British clotted cream, and lots and lots of English tea.

This month we're looking towards clearing out the wardrobe of those heavy winter garments and finding those little gems you can wear in warmer weather time and time again. Spring is definitely in the air and I for one am looking forward to getting out the Spring collection.
Floaty florals,block colours,1950's clinched waist and metallics are trending right now.
One of my favourite key looks is the 1950's one.
It's pretty easy finding those key,classic pieces and a great way to introduce your own take on fashion is by wearing one off Vintage frocks. Of course looking for original vintage dresses can be difficult but we do get a nice selection coming into the Beautiful Attire boutique!
As a fan of all things 1950'5/60's Americana we're in love with the Mad Men style silhouette and of course Joan Harris comes to mind. We can see her in her this pretty cobalt silk number in the offices of Sterling Cooper. Sexy,feminine and professional just like Joan!

They're back! After last Christmas's Weekend Craft Emporium success - they had over 1500 visitors to the event - the Craft Guerrilla gang are back with a smoochie,coochie Valentine's Fair!
The Love Easy is the last big event at the William Morris Gallery before the refurb so here's your chance to buy a great gift for your sweetie pie or even just to say "we love you William Morris!" as all door proceeds,Tombola and a percentage of the stall rental fee go directly to the gallery. It's a LOVE EASY fund raiser!!!

The new year brings all kinds of resolutions,new energy,new dynamics etc. and so Beautiful Interiors is ready to blossom into something "more then just a local gift shop"!
So far we've had a ball offering our shoppers some pretty great and unusual stuff but for 2011 we have plans to make things even better.
We're going back to the beginning and we're slowly returning to being primarily a gallery and a gift shop showcasing some mainstream items but more and more hand made Design Maker items.
Plus we've added a POP UP shop where guest designer makers come in and have their very own area selling their goods directly to the public.
It's all very exciting and we'll be adding more events and layers to the shop through out the year!
We hope you'll like this new direction and continue to shop with us!

Yes, you've heard correctly the shop cat, Jassie Mo, is back!
Earlier this year we told you she had retired from the rat race - such a hard job being a shop cat - but decided she had enough of hanging around the house enjoying the life of leisure so she's now back in her rightful place...sitting on top of a very expensive sofa!

Beautiful Interiors proudly presents an exhibition of photographic works by Max Bainbridge.

"This set of work was made in Hartlepool.The subject was the fair ground on the Headland.
I was interested in photographing these isolated structures, the darkness of the sky giving
them a strange luminosity.
When photographing them it was very important to me that they be photographed on their own,
taking away any sense of nostalgia or romanticism and concentrating on more formal elements."

The 3 week exhibition opens on Friday the 14th of May and is on until the 4th of June.

We'll be open later then usual this Friday the 14th of May until 9pm for the openning and
also to launch our WEEKEND FLASH SALE!
Lots of items have been reduced so come have a look. Sale ends Sunday at 6pm.

And a bit of news regarding opening/closing times...
From June we'll be closed on Mondays and the rest remain as is.

I can't quite believe it's only a month away for the Craft Guerrilla markets to begin. Hosted in our lovely garden this grass roots collective offers our shoppers the chance to buy something original and fresh. Apart from great art and craft there's also the welcome return of Handsome Betty and her delectable cakes. She's teaming up with Karen aka Creme Anglaise to bake wonderful cakes for all you sweet people. From super cute cup cakes to vintage inspired cakes these two bakerettes know a thing or two about temptation! Join them at their "let them eat cake" sugary sweet bar.
So whether you're looking for great design, urban craft, art, a slice of cake or just a peep at what's happening in the garden we'd love to see you!
Fun begins at 10 am to 5.30pm in the shop garden. Free entry and free refreshments.

2010 E17 Calendar!

Beautiful Interiors is happy to announce that the E17 2010 Calendar is now in stock!
A new artwork for your wall each month and an ideal stocking filler – The Walthamstow
Calendar is an initiative coordinated by Penny Fielding and features 12 new images
from all over Walthamstow.
Each month carries an image donated by a local artist or resident; they are a diverse
range of photographs, drawings and digital prints.

“By buying this calendar you are supporting your local arts community in a multitude of ways” Penny Fielding.

The whole community was invited to enter images into an exhibition held at Beautiful
Interiors as part of the 2009 E17 Art Trail before the final 12 were selected for use in the calendar.

The calendars are on on sale now in Beautiful Interiors in the Walthamstow Village and Images in Frames on Wood Street.

We are inviting inspired residents and local artists to submit images and artworks for the 2011 calendar,

Going to the dogs...

GOING TO THE DOGS is the exhibition by talented local photographer Katherine Green. Much to the dismay and heartache of local people this listed art deco building was closed earlier this year...Gone to the Dogs! Literally.
Loved and respected by many this venue for dog racing,socializing and a good old punt was one of the last of its kind in London!
To coincide with the Exhibition at the Vestry House Museum Katherine will also be showing some of her work in Beautiful Interiors. We've also invited to show along side Katherine's work a few other local artists: Brigit Collins, Ellen jones, Alice Mara, Sonja Read and Stuart Reid.
The show will be on from Saturday the 26th of September to 27th November.
On sale will be a selection of Walthamstow Dog Stadium related work from jewellery, photographs, prints to a beautiful book which is filled with Katherine's inimitable style of photography of the stadium, its people and its last few days!

Learn what dreams are and how they work; understand and appreciate your dreams in a relaxing, supportive, beautiful environment. Each session will include a two-hour study of a participant’s dream, using the Montague Ullman method.

The foundation of the Ullman process is that the dreamer is the only expert on their dream; no one can ‘interpret’ it for them, they are not obliged to reveal anything, and everything said in the group is confidential. This makes it completely safe.

As part of a vibrant and artistically diverse community Penny Fielding
has showcased numerous works by local artists and has gone on to establish her shop
as an integral part of the local community acting as a sponsor for up coming artists and crafts people.
This Autumn Anssi Sojakka, Paul Robinson and Paul Tucker showcase their work in the shop gallery.

Anssi Sojakka: "I experiment in order to keep my work alive and interesting for me, suprise me even...
I use objects, such as chains as templates.
The shapes and outlines of the objects merge with the other objects around them creating a landscape of shapes and forms."

Paul Robinson: The artist has appropriated genuine British Army Disruptive Pattern Material.
The colour characteristics of the material have been carefully painted out, leaving only traces of its original survival function.
A transformation has occurred turning something that is uniform and institutional into something that is inspiring and playful.

Paul Tucker:‘Bronte’ is a house in Leiston Suffolk and is the subject of a photographic exhibition by Paul Tucker.
It started as a document of a house, whose owner, Agnes Deller, was moving on after 33 years.
The house, its character and contents have a unique quality. In the eventual series of photographs, the interiors and their objects
have a strong sense of identity and evoke memories of past lives. These are intimate portrayals of a time and place through light and colour.

Thanks to our friends the East London Craft Guerrilla for providing us with a summer of fantastic Craft Markets in the shop garden. Their party spirit has created a vibrant and youthful atmosphere and hopefully next Spring the Craft Guerrilla guys and gals will be taking up their pitches in the garden for more crafty events.
Now that the outdoor craft market season is over this troop of indie crafters have launched themselves into another crafty venture.
After the huge success of their first D.I.Y. craft night (part of the E17 Art Trail last Wednesdy the 10th of September) they've decided that this was something they would do again. Hurry, as the end of the E17 Art Trail is swiftly approaching!
This Sunday the 14th of September sees the conclusion of what has been the largest ever Art Trail.
No fewer then 300 artists have participated in making this years trail the resounding success it has been.
From D.I.Y. Craft Nights to High Tea to the more conventional exhibitions this trail has been more creative and diverse then ever.
The shop itself has morphed into a gallery space spilling out into the courtyard and garden
proudly showcasing work by hugely talented artists. Lino prints, paintings, photography and "The night in the window" has proven to be inspiring and great fun. We thank you all...artists,shoppers,friends,visitors and everyone for making it so special!

From extravagant dresses and parades of animals, to neon lights and suspended tea cups, guest artists have been invited to create a new piece of work looking at the theme of love while exploring light and scale. Hopper-esque scenes of night time emerge, placing the viewer at the centre of the piece.

The installations will be changed every evening and can be viewed street side on Orford Rd from sunset throughout the E17 Art Trail from 5th to 14th of September.

Join us for a class of wine and a chance to talk the artists about their work.

PENNY FIELDING BEAUTIFUL INTERIORS
introduces the second in the bimonthly art show series for 2008 with an
exploration of contemporary non-figurative painting with
Chris Winter and Denise Hickey.

Christopher Winter’s work includes portrait, landscape and abstract,
using mainly oil on canvas, although he also works in acrylic, gloss and
mixed media. His influences range from Lichtenstein, Kandinsky,
Ralph Steadman and Jackson Pollock to Marvel comics, the organic forms
of Art Nouveau and subway art.

In these recent works, Chris has been drawn not only to the interaction
of colour, but also to the flow of the paint and its collision with the canvas.
He employs serendipity as a ‘tool’ to reveal the natural consistency of the
paint, exploring the tension between form, line, colour and texture.

Denise's work is concerned with exploring the relationship between intangible
notions like memory, love, loss, beauty, solitude and fear and physical objects.

This body of work focuses on used fabrics. It is awkwardly assembled and goes
through a series of seemingly random but repetitive actions including dip-dyeing,
bleaching, sewing, folding and tearing.
Denise has always been drawn to abandoned domestic items from teacups to
typewriters to bed sheets; the lives they may have had and what they can stand for.
The work looks at the paradoxes of these representations:
safety and vulnerability
damage and repair
comfort and distress
control and freedom
transience and permanence
life and death.

Paul Tucker is a professional photographer living and working in Walthamstow. Alongside his commercial work he has developed a body of more personal work. Paul's fine art photography has been widely exhibited, often depicting the atmosphere and character of an area. One of Paul's most popular projects, "Bronte" is an intimate portrayal of a house in Suffolk whose owner was moving out after 33 years. He has just completed a project at a disused factory in E17 that was awaiting demolition, this work will form the basis of a exhibition to be held the Vestry House museum in walthamstow village.
The "Allotment series" is an ongoing project involving local allotment sites. Starting in March 2007 Paul witnessed a dramatic change from the dormant state of the site through to rapid and full growth in August. The images record the diversity of the site and provide a document of this change. Paul believes "The plot-holders cultivate and recycle in many different ways creating a unique environment that is somewhere between domesticity and wilderness."

Sarah Hardy’s latest work consists of detailed, pencil drawings of the dead insects and spiders that had accumulated on her windowsills in the summer of 2007. Many are husks with limbs and wings missing, and some favourite specimens can be seen to deteriorate as she draws them for the second and third times.
Srah uses no magnifying glass but instead draws in detail by eye. The larger pieces of work are of many images scattered across the plain, white page. These work partly as naturalist’s study, and partly as pattern making. The large scale of the drawings encourages the viewer to switch between zooming into the detail and pulling back to see a pattern of marks, like wallpaper. This wallpaper effect contrasts with the work’s painstakingly hand-drawn nature.
For Sarah the fascination with these insect carcasses comes from their fragility and their mundanity, she says "they are after all rubbish or dirt on our window sills, yet they are spectacular, delicately engineered bodies."

Dean Reddick's sculptures draw on a range of sources from the microscopic, such as viruses, crystal structures and the bizarre world of quantum phenomena, to the macroscopic, such as coral and rock formations.
Dean's work explores the boundries between organic and geometric and order and chaos. 5n the main his sculptures are concerned with form rather than meaning.
In his most recent work Dean has been working with trees, producing one off cast of the bark allowing the viewer to see, in isolation the rich colour and texture of the individual trees. He as also produced drawings of trees from the locality in pencil, ink and pen.
Dean's interest has come, in part, from his work as an art therapist where "art work in the theraputic relationship is used to generate meaning. The tree offers a subject which is visually complex like the human figure but which is psychologically simple, unlike the human mind." He is particularly interested in how mature tree records of its own growth and development like "a slow, massive, three dimensional drawing"

Our successful Monthly Shop Garden Craft Market is now in it's second year and after much thought and reflection we've decided to start it all up again with the help of our friends the "East London Craft Guerrilla".
Each month (dates yet to be confirmed) we will host our Craft Market in association with the "East London Craft Guerrilla". A veritable craft army with products ranging from Art, Illustration, hand made goods, recycled jewellery, children's clothing, hand made soaps and cosmetics, ladies and men's fashion etc.
Our aim is to start in April so pencil it in your diary and check the blog page for updates!
The "East London Craft Guerrilla " are currently recruiting members. You don't have to join to rent a stall but your participation will be left to the discretion of our guest co-organizers.

before going to Bath Academy of Art to study Graphic Design,

one of first serious photos was of a dramatically lit chess set for my cse in photography.

If I could live anywhere it would be by the sea

I wanted to be a stunt man in a James Bond film, but photography proved slightly less perilous.
